KFC employee allegedly stabbed in a dispute with customers over gravy

LAS VEGAS — An investigation is ongoing after a KFC worker was allegedly stabbed over a gravy-related argument.

On Saturday, December 27, an employee at a Las Vegas KFC was hospitalized after being stabbed by a customer, several outlets have reported.

A North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) police report said a witness told officials he saw 32-year-old Gerald Carter become “upset about his gravy” and allegedly said the “staff had disrespected him,” KSNV reported. He eventually returned to the restaurant with his uncle, 48-year-old James Carter.

KFC’s surveillance video allegedly showed Gerald stabbing the employee several times in the footage while James put the employee in a choke hold, per the police report.

North Las Vegas Police responded to a reported stabbing on December 27, a representative for the NLVPD confirmed to PEOPLE. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment while several individuals were detained in the area, resulting in one man being taken into custody on the day of the incident.

According to KSNV, the police report says that Gerald was found with a folding knife and allegedly admitted to an officer that he got into a fight but said his knife stayed in his pocket. Per the police report, Gerald claimed the employee “was calling him names and disrespecting him and that is why they got into a fight.”

But because the case is under active investigation by the North Las Vegas Police Department’s Detective Bureau, the department is “limited” in the details they can share, the North Las Vegas Police Department representative told PEOPLE.

KSNV reported that James and Gerald Carter were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

KLAS reported that North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Jonathan Cooper set bail at $100,000 for Gerald Carter and $10,000 for James Carter during their court appearance on Tuesday, December 30.

KFC did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
