First U.S. Virgin Islands Female CAC Boxing Medalist
ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) is calling on community members, law enforcement personnel, and local sports fans to join in a hero’s welcome for Officer Cindy Claudio upon her return to the territory on Sunday, August 9.
Officer Claudio captured a bronze medal in the Women’s 65kg division at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The victory marks an historic milestone for Virgin Islands athletics: Claudio is officially the first female athlete representing the territory to earn a medal in boxing at the CAC Games.
In addition to representing Team USVI on the international athletic stage, Claudio serves on the front lines as a sworn member of the Virgin Islands Police Department.
Commissioner Brooks: ‘A Tremendous Moment’
In an official statement released Saturday evening, Police Commissioner Mario Brooks commended Officer Claudio for exhibiting the highest standards of the department both inside and outside the ring.
“This is a tremendous moment not only for Officer Claudio, but for the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands Police Department,” said Commissioner Brooks. “Officer Claudio has demonstrated the same discipline, courage, commitment, and determination that we ask of every member of this Department. She stepped into the ring carrying the pride of the Virgin Islands, and she left the competition having made history. We are extremely proud of her accomplishment and look forward to welcoming our champion home.”

The VIPD invites the media and the public to join department officials on Sunday at the Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas to greet Officer Claudio as she steps off the plane with her historic bronze hardware.
