FREDERIKSTED, St. Croix — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) has announced that the Concordia Bin Site will temporarily close effective Monday, August 10, 2026, to clear the property for construction of a modern Convenience Center.
To maintain continuous service for Frederiksted-area residents during the buildout, all waste disposal operations will temporarily move immediately next door to the Department of Public Works property.
According to VIWMA, the temporary site will feature active surveillance and on-site personnel to guide residents, ensure proper disposal practices, and maintain site cleanliness.
Temporary Site Operating Hours
The adjacent Department of Public Works property will operate under the following schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday – Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Waste Rules & Permitted Items
VIWMA stresses that the temporary bin site is strictly designated for normal bagged residential household waste only. All household garbage must be securely bagged and placed inside the designated collection containers.
PROHIBITED ITEMS AT BIN SITES: The following materials are strictly prohibited at the temporary Concordia location:
- Construction and demolition debris
- Household furniture and bulky waste
- Tires and automotive parts
- Hazardous materials (chemicals, paints, oils, and batteries)
- Yard waste and large vegetation
- Electronic waste and appliances

VIWMA stated that the temporary move is a direct step toward transforming the Concordia footprint into a modern Convenience Center aimed at improving solid waste infrastructure and environmental stewardship across St. Croix.
