CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A British Virgin Islands man was given three years in prison and a St. Thomas man was given more than four years in prison for their convictions in a conspiracy involving 2.2 pounds of cocaine.

Dexter Harley, 32, of Tortola, and Jose Squiabro, 44, of St. Thomas, were sentenced for their roles in connection with a conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram of cocaine, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert said.

U.S. District Court Curtis Gomez sentenced Harley to 36 months in prison on Thursday and Judge Gomez sentenced Squiabro to 51 months in prison today.

Harley and Squiabro were each sentenced to four years of supervised release following their period of incarceration. In addition, Judge Gomez ordered Harley and Squiabro to each pay a $100 special assessment and perform 200 hours of community service.

On April 23 and 25, 2018, Harley and Squiabro, respectively, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute one kilogram of cocaine.

According to the plea agreements filed with the court, Harley and Squiabro conspired with each other between December 15, 2015 and February 9, 2016 to sell one kilogram of cocaine to another unnamed person.

This case was a result of an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD).

It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
