FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix woman who was accused of slashing another woman’s face in a local bar in 2017 has been arrested in another cutting incident this year.
Misaela Melendez, 23, was arrested about 12:43 p.m. on Thursday and charged with third-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime, Virgin Islands Police Department spokesman Glen Dratte said.
Melendez allegedly attacked a woman at the El Rincon Bar in Frederiksted sometime before 4:30 a.m. on July 29.
At the Juan F. Luis Hospital last month, police met with a female victim who was being “treated for a laceration to the upper parts of her the body,” according to Dratte.
The arrest came about after detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau realized Melendez was a suspect in the 2018 cutting attack.
An arrest warrant, was issued by a Superior Court Magistrate for the arrest of Melendez on Wednesday.
After being booked, Melendez was authorized to be released on her own recognizance by a Magistrate of the court under the condition that she appears at the Superior Court on her advice-of-rights hearing date.
Melendez allegedly slashed another woman’s face in a night club on May 13, 2017, according to police records.
