VIDOH Offers Free Chronic Disease Control Workshops

CHRISTIANSTED — The V.I. Department of Health is recruiting for free workshops, known as the “Take Charge of Your Health with Chronic Disease Control Program.”

This program consists of six workshops that are specifically designed to address issues arising from chronic diseases.

If you or someone you love experiences a chronic health disease such as any auto-immune disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, asthma or cancer these workshops will help you become pro-active about dealing with chronic diseases.

It will also be especially helpful to caregivers of individuals with chronic diseases. The workshops are FREE and are scheduled to last six weeks.

On St. Croix classes will begin April 4th and end May 9th (every Thursday).

The time and location has not been confirmed. On St. Thomas classes begin on April 9th and continuing through May 14th.

Classes will take place on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Fire Station across from Barbel Plaza.

As part of this program you will learn about benefits that come from changing your lifestyle.

You will also gain invaluable peer support from others. If you are a caregiver to someone with a chronic disease you will be able to share your experiences and hear about other caregiver experiences.

Topics covered in the workshop include: eating well and exercising safely, coping with pain and fatigue, treatment options, how to talk with your doctor, and what questions to ask.
