CANE BAY — A St. Croix woman was shot to death in La Vallee in the early morning hours on Wednesday.
A’shyra Sweeney, 22, of Estate La Vallee was found unresponsive by police after someone called the 911 Emergency Call Center at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The victim was transported to the Juan Luis Hospital where she was pronounced dead by the physician in the JFL Emergency room,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.
On Facebook, Sweeney said she works at Wendy’s and lives in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Sweeney said on her Facebook page that she is from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. But friends say she grew up on St. Croix.
This case is under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Major Crime Unit as a suspicious death at this time, pending the Medical Examiner’s finding, Dratte said.
The CIB Bureau is asking anyone with information about this incident please call the CIB at 340-778-2211, the anonymous tip line Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477 or 911.
Is she related to Jakwan Sweeney 21, who was allegedly arrested for trying to deal 11 pounds of cocaine on St. Croix?
Let’s hope the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) is on top of that.
Wow any updates?
I really hope they get to the bottom of this and find who did it. It’s terrible to hear of two women shot in recent months and no news of finding suspects. So many beautiful people in St Croix and want to hear about those stories! No more of these sad crimes. What is being done to get guns away from bad people?
