CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said that potable water service to several areas on St. Croix will be turned off for at least six hours today.

Water Distribution crews need to make repairs to a leaking 12-inch water main at D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace in Estate Richmond, according to WAPA.

“Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should be completed by 2:30 p.m., WAPA said.

While repair work is underway, various areas of the island will experience either low water pressure or no water service including: Lew Muckle Elementary School, Word of Life School in Estate Work & Rest, Richmond, LBG Gardens, Friendensthal, Contentment, Hermon Hill, Beeston Hill, Aldersville, Questa Verde, Catherine’s Rest, Work & Rest, Humbug, and Tamarind.

Construction on D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace, or as it is commonly referred to — “Red Brick,” began in October of 1952 and was completed on April 30, 1954.

Meanwhile, WAPA said this afternoon that about 80 customers on St. Croix are suffering from a power outage near Gateway Service Station in Estate Anna’s Hope.

The authority said that its contractor crews need to upgrade electrical service lines in that area.

“Service should be restored by 3 p.m.,” the authority said. “WAPA apologizes for any inconvenience.”
