CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Virgin Islands Police Department patrol officers from the Mariel C. Newton Command, members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, along with Emergency Medical Technicians responded to a 911 call of a body discovered on a vessel in the Benner Bay area of St. Thomas on Saturday about 4:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers observed and encountered a Caucasian male who was hanging from a rope tied to the boom of the vessel, according to the VIPD.

“Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene confirmed that the male displayed no vital signs,” VIPD spokesman Karl Caesar said. “Preliminary investigation did not show any signs of foul play on the scene where the vessel was anchored between the Compass Point and Saga Haven Marinas.”

Detectives will rely on the medical professionals, who will determine the cause of death, pending the completion of an autopsy. The identity of the Caucasian male is being withheld until proper notification of the next of kin can be achieved.
