Old People To Learn Importance Of Avoiding Falls In Free St. Croix Class

CHRISTIANSTED — People of all ages experience a fall from time to time, but as we get older, the results of a fall pose a serious health risk to people. Falls are a leading cause of injury for older adults.

The St. Croix Senior Collaborative is offering classes called “A Matter of Balance” to residents 60 or older here on island.

The training class consists of eight two-hour sessions and are free. The goal of this program is to significantly decrease the number of falls experienced by participants in the class and through cognitive-restructuring activities, assist participants in getting over their fear of falling and resume healthy, age-appropriate and health-appropriate activities.

The next class begins on Tuesday, February 14, from 9:30 – 11:30 at the American Red Cross Headquarters across from the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. That class will run for eight weeks, organizers said.

Pre-registration is required as a limit of 12 people per class is set. Call 340-690-3002 or email [email protected] for more information. If you would like to be included on a mailing list for announcements of future classes, please call or email. If enough people are interested, additional classes can be offered on a different day of the week.

The mission of the St. Croix Senior Collaborative, a non-profit organization affiliated with the St. Croix Foundation, is to develop, collaborate, and deliver programs, services, and events in support of senior residents on St Croix, USVI.
