VIPD: St. Thomas Man Arrested After He, Minor Take 2 Cars From Auto Lot

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man has been arrested for allegedly taking two cars from an automobile dealer about two weeks ago, authorities said.

Jaquan George, 18 of Annas Retreat was arrested about 4:14 p.m. Monday and charged with third-degree burglary, grand larceny, aiding and abetting, and possession of stolen property, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On January 13, police officers were dispatched to Mitchell Auto Sales, where the manager reported that two vehicles were missing from the lot, and a window of the business was broken, according to the VIPD.

“A thorough investigation revealed that George and a minor were the suspects in this matter,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The suspects apparently drove the vehicles out of the lot and kept the vehicles in their possession.”

Bail for George was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice- of-rights hearing.

This case is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
