St. Thomas Man Who Throws Bottle At Head Of Girlfriend Is Arrested By Police: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who threw a bottle at his ex-girlfriend and hit her her square in the forehead was arrested by police in St. Thomas, authorities said.

VIPD Domestic Violence detectives arrested 20-year-old Jashem Letang of Oswald Harris Court and charged him with simple assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

An adult female reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend on Wednesday, according to the VIPD.

“The victim had noticeable injuries from the assault, where Letang reportedly threw a bottle at her, hitting her in the forehead,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Letang admitted in a statement to assaulting the victim with the bottle and was placed under arrest.”

Letang did not get bail, as per domestic violence statutes.

He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights hearing.
