CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 70-year-old St. Thomas man died Monday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Polyberg Hill, authorities said.
Uric Smith, Sr. of Oswald Harris Court was positively identified as the victim, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The investigation into the incident revealed that a vehicle was turning onto Polyberg Hill before 4:54 p.m. on Monday when the rider of the motorcycle, which was traveling west, applied brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle, according to the VIPD. Smith lost control of the motorcycle, eventually hitting the vehicle.
Smith was transported from the scene to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
