‘Drive-Thru’ COVID-19 Testing Of Veterans To Resume On Monday: VA

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will be conducting testing for Virgin Islands Veterans during the period of August 31 through September 28 on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.

This second round of COVID-19 testing will be conducted at VA Clinic locations on St. Croix and St. Thomas. Testing will take place two days a week for the next four weeks beginning on Monday August 31.

On Monday’s, testing will take place in the parking lot outside of the St. Croix VA Clinic which is located at the Village Mall in Estate Barren Spot.

Testing on St. Thomas will take place on Wednesday’s in the parking lot outside of the VA Clinic located in the Medical Foundation building located behind the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.

Testing at each location will be conducted using a drive-thru type concept, there will be no need to exit your vehicle. Special accommodations will be
made for Veterans not in a vehicle.

Veterans interested in having the test done please report to the VA Clinic in your district on one of the allotted days between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Please have a photo I.D. available for eligibility verification.

NOTE: There will be no testing on Monday Sept 7th (Labor Day) on St. Croix.
The make-up day will be Monday September 28th.

The VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) will be offering this COVID-19 testing for veterans free of charge at its clinics on St. Thomas and St. Croix.

The system, consisting of a medical center in San Juan and 10 outpatient clinics located throughout Puerto Rico (Arecibo, Ceiba, Comerio, Guayama Mayaguez, Ponce, Utuado, Vieques) and the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Croix, St. Thomas) provides services to about 90,000 veterans.

All VACHS facilities are conducting these comprehensive screening of all veterans and staff who present with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath who meet the CDC criteria for evaluation of COVID-19 infection.

Individuals known to be at risk for a COVID-19 infection are immediately isolated to prevent potential spread to others. The use of hand sanitizer is required to enter the facilities.
