CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Department of Public Works is advising the public that while VITRAN’s Fixed Route service remains suspended residents will see buses on roadways starting Monday.
The buses will be used for Mass Transit Bus Operator training purposes only and will continue until Friday September 4, according to DPW.
VITRAN will continue to provide ADA Paratransit services to passengers traveling for dialysis and medical care. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, VITRAN was forced to suspend its Fixed Route transportation services territory-wide, to protect its passengers and employees from the potential exposure to COVID-19.
DPW began training some VITRAN bus drivers in May.
The Department is urging the community to take personal responsibility and practice good hygiene to reduce their risk of contracting and/or spreading the coronavirus disease.
