CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating a shooting downtown that put one St. Thomas male in the hospital this morning, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Kronprindsens Gade near Simmonds Alley in reference to report of discharging of shots at 9:30 a.m. today, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
A police officer spoke with an unidentified male who said that he “was injured” in the shooting, according to the VIPD.
But he told police that he did not know who shot at him, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
He was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in Sugar Estate for treatment, Derima said.
Police sometimes refer to a “male” when they are unsure if the person involved has reached the age of 18 yet.
A male person over the age of 18 is considered a “man,” a male person below that age threshold is considered a “boy.”
Police are asking anyone who saw what happened to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5608, or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1 (800) 222-8477.
