CHRISTIANSTED — Police assigned to Phase 2 of the Virgin Islands Crime Initiative made two arrests in separate incidents resulting in the confiscation of a controlled substance and an unlicensed firearm.
Bomani O. Henley, 30, of Estate Rattan, was arrested at 10:32 p.m. Wednesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Henley in the vicinity of Sunshine Mall in Estate Cane, Frederiksted, VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “During the course of the traffic stop, Henley was found in possession of cocaine.”
Jahsino M. Alfred, 24, of Barren Spot was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Thursday and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession or sale of ammunition, according to the VIPD.
“During a traffic stop on East End Road in Estate Southgate, officers discovered a loaded firearm in Alfred’s vehicle,” Derima said.
Bail for Henley was set at $15,000, while bail for Alfred was set at $50,000. Neither of the men were able to post bail, and were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending their Advice of Rights hearings.
St. Croix District Chief of Police, Sidney Elskoe praised the officers of the Virgin Islands Crime Initiative for the arrests.
“These officers continue to work hard to get guns and drugs off our streets,” Chief Elskoe said.
He asked residents to say something to police, if they see something.
All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this news article are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
