Sion Farm Man Accused Of Breaking Into Girlfriend’s Apartment, Assaulting Her, Stealing Cell Phone: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who wanted to short circuit the telephone conversations of his girlfriend allegedly broke into her apartment, assaulted her and then left with her cell phone, authorities said.

Jahneil Herbert, 24, of Sion Farm, was arrested at 10:35 a.m. Saturday and charged with first-degree burglary-domestic violence and simple assaul-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The victim reported to police that Herbert entered into her apartment without permission,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Herbert assaulted the victim and took her mobile phone before leaving the apartment.”

Herbert was located and taken into custody a short time later, Derima said.

Herbert was not offered bail, as per the territory’s domestic violence statutes. He was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
