FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix woman has been arrested after allegedly discharging a firearm carelessly in Mount Pleasant West, authorities said.

Michelle D. Wakefield, 34, of Estate Cane Carlton, was arrested at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, discharging or aiming a firearm, carrying firearms openly or concealed, third-degree assault, possession of ammunition and third-degree false reporting, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Bail for Wakefield was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, she was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

The news that Wakefield had been arrested was posted by the VIPD to Twitter at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

An earlier version of this news article mentioned Wakefield was from Grove Place because when she registered to vote, she listed “Grove Place” as her St. Croix address.
