KINGSHILL — A St. Croix man wearing dark clothing was struck and killed by a pickup truck while trying to cross the road in Estate Profit on Thursday night, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a vehicular-pedestrian accident in Estate Profit at about 7:41 p.m. Thursday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The investigation into the incident revealed that a silver Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling southbound on Route 663 when a pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Fernando Crispin, attempted to cross the road westbound, and was hit by the vehicle,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Crispin was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center via ambulance, where he subsequently died from his injuries, the VIPD said.
“The investigation also revealed that the victim was wearing dark clothing, and the area did not have streetlights,” Derima added. “Those factors may have contributed to the accident.”
