Police Arrest Sion Farm-Area Man On Child Rape Charges Early This Morning: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — A Sion Farm-area man was arrested today for the rape of a child last year, authorities said.

Kyle M. Stapleton, 34, of Tan Tan Terrace, was arrested at 6:40 a.m. today charged with first-degree aggravated rape, first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, aggravated child abuse & neglect, possession of visual medium depicting sexually explicit conduct and distribution or exhibition to a minor, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“The investigation into this incident revealed that in October of 2020, Stapleton sexually assaulted a minor,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

A Superior Court warrant was issued in Stapleton’s name on March 4. He was located and placed under arrest by detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and officers from the Special Operations Bureau (SOB), Derima said.

Stapleton’s bail was set at $200,000. Unable to post bail, and was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

All individuals listed as arrested or charged with a crime in this report are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
