CHARLOTTE AMALIE — For the second time in just over two weeks, Virgin Islands Police say they are investigating a possible drowning at a St. Thomas beach.
Police officers were dispatched to John Brewer’s beach near UVI regarding the incident about 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Police officers and security personnel from the University of the Virgin Islands traveled to the area and found an unresponsive male who was removed from the water,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The male was transported to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by the Emergency Room physician.”
The deceased was identified by his next of kin as 87-year-old George A. Lake, the police spokesman said.
The cause of Lake’s death is unknown at this time, pending an autopsy, Derima said.
On April 19, Danielle Marie Lipkins, 24, of Atlanta, Georgia was found dead at Coki Point beach after riding a personal water craft (PWC) with another woman.
