Head Start Resumes In-Person Learning, Parents Must Show Kids Are COVID-Free

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Virgin Islands Department of Human Services Commissioner Kimberley Causey-Gomez said today that the Head Start Program would return to full in-person classroom instruction on Thursday, January 27, 2022, across the territory.

“We are all ready to welcome our little ones back into classrooms, but out of an abundance of caution, we cannot do that until all students and staff are COVID tested. Individuals who are confirmed positive must take the necessary steps to take care of their health and return to classrooms when it is safe for them to do so,” Commissioner Causey said. “Head Start staff and families are asked to report positive results to the appropriate Head Start personnel.”

A COVID negative test will be required prior to returning.

Drive thru and walk-up testing for all Head Start students and employees, has been arranged through the Virgin Islands Department of Health on Wednesday, 26 January 2022 from 9:00am – 2:00pm at DC Canegata Community Center on St. Croix and at the Old Cinema on St. Thomas. Persons may also choose to access testing from private providers.
