CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man who kidnapped and then pistol whipped his former girlfriend has been arrested on domestic violence-related charges, authorities said.
Shamar N. Lewis, 23, of Lindbergh Bay, was arrested at 8:00 a.m. today and charged with kidnapping-domestic violence and third-degree assault-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Lewis is accused of taking his former intimate partner against her will at gunpoint from her home around 10:45 p.m. on February 1,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “During the abduction, Lewis assaulted the victim with the firearm. Lewis then returned the victim to her home.”
According to police records, Lewis was also arrested on an illegal gun charge near Four Winds Plaza at Anna’s Retreat in March of 2020.
Lewis was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections without bail, in accordance with territorial domestic violence laws, pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
