Police Investigating After Lift Truck Tips Over Killing One Worker

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police are investigating after a heavy equipment accident claimed the life of one construction worker and injured another, authorities said.

A “motorized boom lift” tipped over this morning in St. Thomas near the Moravian Highway, the Virgin Islands Police Department said on Twitter.

The two injured workers were transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

“51-year-old Rafael Urena a Hispanic male pronounced dead at 9:24 a.m., at the RLS Hospital from head trauma,” Dratte said. “The second victim remains in stable condition at the RLS Hospital.”

Traffic investigators are on the scene investigating this fatal accident.
