St. Croix Man Arrested For Firing Gun Outside of Peter’s Rest Bar

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who got drunk in a Peter’s Rest bar then went outside and started firing a gun was arrested by order of the Superior Court, authorities said.

David Armstrong was arrested Thursday and charged with brandishing a weapon and possession of ammunition while carrying a firearm openly or concealed, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Marine Unit executed the arrest of Armstrong after an arrest order was issued by Superior Court Magistrate Judge Yolan Brow-Ross.

Armstrong was arrested in connection to a July 2, 2021 incident after citizens reported a man discharging shots and brandishing a firearm outside a bar in the Peter’s Rest area, according to the VIPD.

Police investigating the incident recovered “several spent casings” in the Peter’s Rest area where the incident was reported.

“Information obtained during an investigation revealed that Mr. Armstrong was in
possession of a firearm and was arrested without incident at his residence,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.

Armstrong was read his Miranda Rights and declined to give a statement to police about the incident, according to Dratte.

The suspect was also arrested by the VIPD’s Police High Intensity Drug Area Task Force on September 24, 2014. At that time, he was charged with two counts of unauthorized possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.

Bail for Armstrong was set at $100,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice-of-rights hearing on Friday.
