Man Who Struck Woman On Veterans Drive Follows Her and Shoots At Her, VIPD Says

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A man who punched a woman on Veterans Drive and then followed after her with a gun, eventually firing it at her, was arrested late Saturday night, authorities said.

Andrew Isiah Reid, 32, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, first-degree reckless endangerment, and simple assault, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers from the Richard Callwood Command responded to a call for shots fired in the area of
Guttets Gade at 8:33 p.m. Saturday, according to the VIPD.

Polce met with the victim who stated that Andrew Isiah Reid struck her in the area of her chest, near Banco Popular on Veteran’s Drive Annex, police said.

“The victim further stated that while in the area of Guttets Gade, Reid pointed and discharged a firearm at her,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

At around 10:30 p.m., detectives from the Forensics Unit and Intel Unit conducted an inspection in the area of Altona and Welgunst, in search of Reid, according to Dratte.

Officers approached a vehicle fitting the description given of Reid and the vehicle he was driving during the incident, according to police.

Reid was taken into custody without incident. He was booked and processed.

Bail for Reid was set at $150,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing set for tomorrow.

This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
