CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police on St. Thomas are investigating a shooting Sunday afternoon in Savan that left one man dead and another injured.
The deceased was positively identified by next of kin as 29-year-old Shamoi Charleswell, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Two male gunshot victims were transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center via private vehicle,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “One of the victims succumbed his injuries and the other victim is being treated for his wounds.”
Details were scarce Sunday night and police did not say what led to the shooting. Dratte said that a citizen contacted the 911 Emergency Call Center at 3:53 p.m. to report shots fired in Savan.
Meanwhile, people on social media, especially the relatives of Charleswell, expressed their grief at their loved one’s sudden passing.
“I can’t sleep up all night. My head hurts my heart pain tears just flowing,” Euqninirac Samoht of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands said on Facebook. “What am I going to do in the yard with out you today. Aunty you done eat.I going to get you something. We cuss, we argue but had a very close relationship. He always call me for advice when he mad. Why they took him away from me. DECEMBER MONTH SUCKS FATHER 42YEARS SISTER 7 YEARS NOW YOU./GONE TO SOON. SHAMOI CHARLESWELL/AUNTY LOVE YOU.”
