CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Members of the Virgin Islands Police Department Operation Rewind Task Force made three arrests in St. Thomas while conducting traffic enforcement on Thursday night. The arrests are as follows:

Shaheid Mavnard and Michael Fahie

At approximately 7:30 p.m., members of Operation Rewind Task Force were on Bolongo Bay Road in the vicinity of the dumpsters, when officers initiated a traffic stop of a Honda CRV-EX, orange in color due to the front windshield tint below the AS1 Line, according to the VIPD.

“Officers approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and immediately detected the odor of marijuana,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.

A search was conducted of the vehicle and two unlicensed firearms were recovered, police said. The occupants of the vehicle did not have a license to carry a firearm, according to Dratte. Shaheid Maynard, 26, and Michael S. Fahie, 33, were each placed under arrest for constructive possession of unlicensed firearms, according to police.

Bail for the two men bail was set at $75,000.00. Unable to post bail, each suspect was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending their advice-of-rights hearings.

Arkim Clersaint

At approximately 10:00 p.m., while on Rhymer Highway in the vicinity of Price Smart, officers initiated a traffic stop of a maroon in color, Acura TX due to numerous traffic violations which included the front windshield tint below the AS1 Line, no bumper on the front of the vehicle and the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

Officers approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, which had all the windows rolled down, police said.

“The officers immediately detected the odor of marijuana and a search was conducted of the vehicle where a large quantity of marijuana was discovered,” the police spokesman said.

Arkim Clersaint, 24, was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (marijuana), police said.

Bail for Clersaint was set at $7,500.00. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.

In a related story, three individuals charged with constructive possession of a firearm were improperly searched by police, and will have the evidence in their case suppressed, according to an opinion issued by Virgin Islands Superior Court Judge Denise Francois.

The co-defendants, Ojhani Inecia, Jarius Penn and Arkim Clersaint, were arrested on October 22 and charged with constructive possession of a firearm, meaning police could not determine who the gun belonged to.
