CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 25-year-old woman from St. John was arrested inside a bank as she attempted to cash a stolen check written out for $3,000, authorities said.

Daliqua Moses of Cruz Bay was re-arrested Friday and charged with grand larceny, obtaining money by false pretenses and forgery, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation on September 6 into a reported obtaining-money-by-false-pretenses incident by a St. Johnian woman.

“The complainant reported that two checks were stolen from his check book which was located at his place of employment,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said. “Investigation revealed that Ms. Daliqua Moses stole the checks; she subsequently endorsed, forged and cashed two checks totaling over $3,000.00.”

Police did not say when those checks were cashed, but according to the press release at 1:25 p.m. on Friday August 19, “the Merchants Commercial Bank notified the police when it was identified that Ms. Moses was present and attempting to cash a third check in the amount of three thousand dollars.”

“Ms. Moses was apprehended at the bank by patrol officers and turned over to the ECU Detectives,” according to Dratte.

Moses, who was in the custody of the Bureau of Corrections for a previous charge, was re-arrested Monday and placed under arrest at the Richard N. Callwood Command, the police spokesman said..

Bail for Moses was set at $100,000.00. Unable to post bail, she was booked and processed on St. Thomas, VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

Moses was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing scheduled for tomorrow at the Superior Court, according to Chichester.
