Mass shooting at Embers Guest House leaves 1 dead, 6 injured

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — At least one person is dead and six are injured after what police called a mass shooting at Embers Guest House in St. Thomas on Saturday night.

The Virgin Islands Police Department was alerted to shots fired in Contant by the ShotSpotter detection system at 9:25 p.m. Saturday.

Responding officers went to the former Embers Guest House and discovered an unresponsive male, who appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Emergency Medical Technicians, who were on scene concluded that the male did not have any signs of life, according to police.

Additionally, six other victims, who sustained gunshot wounds, were taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The death brings the total number of homicides reported in the territory so far this year to 44, including 23 on  St. Thomas and 21 on St. Croix.

This case is being actively investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.
