Police investigating killing in Hospital Ground

CHARLOTTE AMALIE – The ShotSpotter detection system alerted to shots fired in Hospital Ground on St. Thomas about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Units from the Richard N. Callwood Command traveled to Hospital Ground and discovered an unresponsive black male lying in the roadway, according to the VIPD.

The male, later identified as 26-year-old Andy Thompson, sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body, VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

Emergency Medical Technicians, who were on scene, concluded that Thompson did not have any signs of life.

Thompson’s next of kin positively identified him as the homicide victim.

The death brings the total number of homicides reported in the territory so far this year to 41, including 22 on St. Thomas and 19 on St. Croix.
