FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix woman was arrested after an investigation revealed that she used another person’s credit cards without permission.
Denell Stevens, 21, was arrested Monday and charged with obtaining money by false pretense, grand larceny, fraudulent use of a credit card, and access to computers for fraudulent purposes, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The case began on June 1, 2022, when the Economic Crimes Unit received a complaint that Stevens made “several” unauthorized purchases using credit cards that didn’t belong to her, according to the VIPD.

“The investigation revealed that Denell Stevens maliciously stole the complainant’s wallet and conducted
several transactions using two of the complainant’s credit cards at different locations without authorization,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.
As a result of the ECU investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Stevens, according to Chichester.
Stevens surrendered herself without incident to officers present at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station at 6:02 p.m. on Monday, police said.
At that time, the suspect was served with a copy of the warrant for her arrest, read her Miranda Rights, booked and processed.
Bail for Stevens was set at $20,000.00. The magistrate judge allowed the defendant to post ten percent, or $2,000, to gain her release until trial.
Stevens was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at Superior Court in Estate Kingshill this morning.
