CHARLOTTE AMALIE —Vital tips from the community led to the arrest of a St. Thomas man linked to the shooting of a woman inside a restaurant in March, authorities said today.
Miguel Brooks, 30, was arrested Friday and charged with charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, and assault with a deadly weapon, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
After months of investigation, B”rooks was identified as the suspect in connection to a shooting that occurred at Savanero Restaurant on March 10, 2024,” according to the VIPD.
“The incident unfolded when an armed suspect approached the victim and his girlfriend, discharging multiple rounds at the victim,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the victim was successfully treated at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.
“Through the collaborative efforts of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and community input, critical leads were developed that ultimately led to the capture of Mr. Brooks,” according to Chichester. “The VIPD extends its gratitude to the public for their assistance and reiterates that the partnership between law enforcement and the community is invaluable in ensuring the safety of our neighborhoods.”
Bail for Brooks was set at $100,000.00. Unable to post bail, he was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail pending further court action.
