Traffic stop in May of 2022 leads to St. Croix man’s arrest on illegal gun charges

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Croix man pulled over at a traffic stop on St. Thomas more than two years ago has been arrested on a local warrant, authorities said.

Marvin C. Stancliffe, 35, of Estate Ruby, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm within 1,000 feet of a school along with multiple other felony charges, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The case began on May 3, 2022, when “an incident unfolded at Kronprindsens Gade, in close proximity to
Frank’s Locks & Key,” according to the VIPD.

Stancliffe was pulled over by law enforcement while he was behind the wheel of his vehicle as part of a routine traffic enforcement operation, police said.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered an unlicensed firearm hidden within 1,000
feet of a nearby school, “raising serious concerns about safety in the area,” according to police.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Thomas made the arrest of Stancliffe based on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.

This case is under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
