St. Croix: brief shower or 2 this morning, partly sunny and humid, high of 88

CHRISTIANSTED — St. Croix will see a brief shower or two this morning; otherwise, it will be partly sunny and humid with a high of 88, AccuWeather said.

Tonight St. Croix will be mainly clear with a low of 73, according to AccuWeather.

There is a high risk of “life-threatening” rip currents due to dangerous breaking waves, the National Weather Service said.

The waves on the north coast of Puerto Rico will be up to 10-feet high, while the waves in Culebra, western Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be 5 to 7-feet high, according to the NWS.

“A northwesterly swell between 5 and 8 feet will peak later this afternoon, causing dangerous breaking waves between 8 and 12 feet across the north-facing beaches,” the NWS told the Virgin Islands Free Press this morning. “Thus, life-threatening rip currents will also form along the surf zones from Rincón to Fajardo. Therefore, we have issued a High Surf Advisory with a high risk of rip currents.”

Meanwhile, small craft venturing out to sea today face the same “hazardous marine conditions,” with seas from 5 to 8-feet high, according to the NWS.

“A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the Atlantic offshore and coastal waters,” the NWS said on X.  “Stay ashore and avoid unnecessary trips. Heed the advice of the flag warning systems.”
