Jose Acosta Jr. faces charges for stabbing woman, stealing belongings, damaging car

FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man faces a bevy of domestic violence-related charges after he stabbed a woman, stole her belongings and damaged her car, authorities said.

Jose Acosta Jr., 37, was arrested and charged with false imprisonment, first-degree assault third-degree assault, second-degree robbery, disturbance of the peace, carrying or using a dangerous weapon, and destruction to property, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from a domestic violence incident that took place at 12:22 p.m. on November 16, 2025, according to the VIPD.

A detective with the Domestic Violence Unit was assigned to investigate this matter.

The victim stated that Jose Acosta Jr. damaged her vehicle, entered her home and then prevented her from leaving her residence, police said.

The victim also disclosed that an argument ensued and when she attempted to leave the home, Acosta stabbed her with a knife, causing visible injuries to her person, according to police.

When her attacker left, he also stole some of her belongings, police said.

On November 18, 2025, detectives with the Domestic Violence Unit and Criminal Investigation Bureau met with Acosta, according to police.

After being questioned by officers, Acosta was taken to the Wilbur H. Francis Command, read his Miranda Rights, booked and processed.

No bail was offered to Acosta in keeping with the territory’s domestic violence laws.

He was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Estate Golden Grove.

Acosta was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Estate Kingshill this morning.
