ANN ARBOR — The Michigan football coaching search in the aftermath of the Sherrone Moore firing has been nothing short of a soap opera, at least in terms of fan reaction, conspiracies and who may or may not take the job.
On Tuesday, all of the scuttlebutt surrounded Louisville coach Jeff Brohm, and a large swath of the maize and blue faithful displayed consternation despite his ability to elevate teams. Given he elevated them from bad to middling, it stands to reason why it would not be an awe-inspiring hire.
But Wednesday’s name may be closer to generating fan excitement.
According to FootballScoop, Michigan football is showing interest in Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
“Multiple sources, at both the collegiate and NFL levels, shared with FootballScoop Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night that Michigan had begun vetting current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and intended to speak this week with Monken.”
Monken has extensive experience at both the college and pro levels. He started as a graduate assistant at Grand Valley State. He was an OC at Eastern Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma State and in the NFL at Tampa Bay and Clevelan. He was back in college at Georgia for both of its national championships, and now serving in the OC role with the Baltimore Ravens under John Harbaugh. He was the coach in college at Southern Miss (now-former Michigan OC Chip Lindsey was his OC for two seasons there) for three years.
