CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas sexagenarian stands accused of damaging a gas station’s customer service window, authorities confirmed.
George Penn, 61, was arrested and charged with destruction of property and disturbance of the peace, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The charges stem from an incident at the First Stop Gas Station in Frydenhoj when officers responded to a man trying to break a glass cashier’s window just before 9:21 a.m. Friday, according to the VIPD.

Responding officers met with the complainants who stated that George Penn came to the cashier’s window and placed his money down, but the cashier did not understand what Penn wanted and subsequently attempted to give him the money back, police said.
“She stated that Penn got extremely angry and began yelling; picked up a rock and began banging on the business’ window and glass door causing damage,” VIPD Communications Director Glen Dratte said.
The complainant then stated that Penn also threatened her and blocked the cashier’s window preventing anyone else from buying gas, according to Dratte.
Penn, 61, was placed under citizen’s arrest at the gas station until officers arrived, according to police.
The suspect was transported to the Richard Callwood Command where he was advised of his Miranda Rights, processed, and booked.
Bail for Penn was set at $500.00. He was bailed out on the same date.
Penn was advised to be present for his advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Charlotte Amalie.
