St. Croix’s public schools closed today

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) is advising the public that all public schools in the St. Croix District will be closed on Monday, December 8, 2025, due to a major water service interruption affecting the island.

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) has indicated in a public notice that, “repairs at the Estate Richmond service station are complex, and customers in Christiansted and Mid-Island will remain without water until work is completed.”

The loss of water service directly impacts the Department’s ability to safely operate school campuses, including restroom facilities, food service, and sanitation.

As a result:

  • All St. Croix District public schools will be closed for in-person instruction on Monday, December 8, 2025.
  • All after-school programs and extracurricular activities in the St. Croix District are canceled for that day.

VIDE is closely monitoring the situation. An update regarding the status of St. Croix schools for Tuesday, December 9, 2025, will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.

Parents, guardians, staff, and community members are encouraged to monitor official VIDE platforms for updates.
