53-year-old Anna’s Retreat woman dies from gunshot wound, cops say

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 53-year-old St. Thomas woman was found dead of a gunshot wound Thursday night, the Virgin Islands Police Department said this afternoon.

Emergency 911 dispatchers got a call at 7:27 p.m. about “an unresponsive female who was reported to have suffered a self-inflicted wound,” according to the VIPD.

Responding Patrol Officers as well as Emergency Medical Technicians arrived at a residence in Anna’s Retreat. Emergency Medical Technicians checked the unresponsive female for vital signs and concluded that she did not have any signs of life, police said.

The deceased female was identified by next of kin as 53-year-old Angelique J. Dewindt. Cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy, according to police.

This case is currently being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.
