KINGSHILL —An habitual offender has finally been captured by police on a domestic violence charge after more than seven months of attempts to locate him on St. Croix.

Vernon Augustine “Pappy” Sackey Jr., 27, was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary-domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center got a report of a disturbance in progress at Bethlehem Village housing, on May 22, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m., according to the VIPD.

Responding officers met with the victim who stated that Vernon Sackey Jr., who she has an existing restraining order against, came to her apartment without her permission, police said.

The victim told officers that Sackey Jr., pried open her window and pointed a firearm at her and other occupants inside her apartment, according to police.

“Numerous attempts were made to apprehend Sackey Jr., with negative results,” the VIPD said in a prepared statement.

An arrest warrant was then signed by a magistrate judge of the Superior Court for Vernon Sackey Jr.’s arrest on a burglary charge. His bail was originally set at $100,000.00.

On December 31, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., Sackey was apprehended and was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station in Estate Mars Hill.

He was advised of his Miranda Rights, booked and processed.

No bail was offered to Sackey in keeping with the territory’s domestic violence laws.

He was transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Estate Golden Grove.

Sackey is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Estate Kingshill.
