CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix resident is being held on a burglary charge after he forcibly entered an office and accessed a prohibited area, authorities said.

John Allen, 43, of Cheney Bay, was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, destruction of property and domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from a January 2 incident in which Allen admitted to forcing open office doors and damaging locking mechanisms to gain access to items inside a storage cabinet he was not authorized to possess while on the compound, according to the VIPD.

Following his arrest, Allen was booked and processed. No bail was set because the case is classified as domestic violence.

He was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility in Estate Golden Grove.

Allen was scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing at the Superior Court in Estate Kingshill this morning.

According to police records, Allen was one of three men charged with stealing lumber in January of 2022.
