St. Croix Man Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges Following Alleged Strangulation

ST. CROIX — A 29-year-old man is behind bars today after allegedly strangling a female companion during a heated argument earlier this week.

Elijah Drew was arrested Thursday morning by detectives from the Wilbur H. Francis Command on charges including:

  • Second-Degree Assault (Domestic Violence)
  • Simple Assault & Battery
  • Disturbance of the Peace

According to police reports, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of the assault around 3:56 p.m. on January 20. The victim told responding officers that a verbal altercation with Drew turned physical when he allegedly placed her in a chokehold, restricting her airway and causing visible injuries.

Drew was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:03 a.m. on January 22. In accordance with U.S. Virgin Islands domestic violence statutes, no bail was set pending his initial Advice of Rights hearing. He is currently being held at the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility.
