St. Thomas man accused of $40,000 bank theft

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man is accused using a dead person’s debit card to steal at least $40,000 from the account without permission, authorities said.

Millener Rogers, 74, was arrested and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The case began on September 4, 2023, when the Economic Crime Unit began investigating a report about the fraudulent use of a credit card on St. Thomas, according to the VIPD.

The complainant reported that she was the beneficiary of an account that was left by her late grandmother, police said.

“Investigation into the complaint revealed that Millener Rogers who had knowledge that the account was entrusted to the deceased’s granddaughter was in possession of the deceased debit card and debited more
than $40,000.00 from said account over a period of time,” VIPD spokeswoman Kishma Chichester said.

Rogers surrendered to detectives with the Economic Crime Unit without incident today, according to Chichester.

Bail for Rogers was set in the amount of $75,000.00.

Unable to post bail, he was transported to the Richard N. Callwood Command where he was read his Miranda Rights, booked and processed.

Rogers was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections at the St. Thomas jail.

The suspect is scheduled for an advice-of-rights hearing in Superior Court.
