Haiti native accused of May rape in Contant, VIPD says

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A Haiti native is facing sexual assault-related charges in connection to an incident that took place on St. Thomas in May, authorities said.

Harold Bruney, 45, of Port-au-Prince, was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, first-degree assault and disturbance of the peace, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the Contant area, according to the VIPD.

A female victim told investigators that while she was walking towards her residence, she was attacked and sexually assaulted by a male suspect, police said.

The suspect was described as tall, of Haitian descent, and having a muscular build, according to police.

Through the course of investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Harold Bruney, police said.

On Monday, October 20, 2025, at approximately 6:48 p.m.,, members of the VIPD arrested Bruney in
Estate Contant, in connection with an ongoing investigation into a sexual assault that occurred earlier this year, according to police.

The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau conducted a thorough investigation, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Bruney, police said.
