CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man was arrested after allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in February, according to police sources.
Osvaldo M. Tavarez, 47, has been charged with first-degree aggravated rape in connection with a March 22 report.
Tavarez was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
A person contacted the 911 Emergency Call Center seven days ago and reported that a 14-year-old minor had been raped.
The caller said the victim broke down with emotion and said that she was raped about a month ago by an adult male.
According to the report, at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, Tavarez was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, where he was advised of his constitutional rights, which police say he waived.
Following the waiving of rights, Tavarez admitted to having sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old minor, according to a police report.
