MID-ISLAND — A St. Croix woman is dead and an Indiana woman is in jail after a two-car collision on the Queen Mary Highway on Thursday night.

On Thursday April 6, 2018 at about 8:19 p.m., a red Toyota Celica traveling eastbound on the Queen Mary Highway vicinity of the St Croix Central High School and a multi-colored Ford Flex traveling westbound on the eastbound lane collided, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD).

Fatima Brown, 25, the front seat passenger in the Toyota Celica was ejected through the front windshield and later succumbed to her injuries sustained from the impact of the collision, VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said, adding that she was 10 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

According to the St. Croix Source, Brown twice won a $2,500 scholarship from the St. Croix Hotel & Tourism Association and attended the College of St. Elizabeth in New Jersey in 2012-2013.

Stephanie Ziegler, 46, of Cicero, Indiana was the driver of the Ford Flex and has been charged with DUI and negligent homicide, according to Dratte.

A Taste of St. Croix program says Ziegler has worked as a chef for Ziggy’s Island Market & Libation Station in Solitude.

International House Hunters on HGTV says that Mike and Stephanie Ziegler are “entrepreneurs” from Indiana who created Ziggy’s Island Market on St. Croix.

According to the Women’s Race, a benefit for the Women’s Coalition, Ziegler has participated more than once in that event.

Bail was set at $50,000. Unable to post bond Ziegler was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility.
