CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A Pennsylvania man was given three years in prison for concealing a federal crime he knew someone else committed.
Michael Leonard, 21, of Philadelphia was sentenced today to 36 months in prison for misprision of a felony consecutive to the sentenced Leonard is already serving for his violation of supervision, announced U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert.
U.S. District Court Judge Curtis Gomez also sentenced Leonard to one year of supervised release and ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment and pay a $1,000 fine.
According to court documents, Leonard traveled with Reynaldo Lerburds and other individuals to a secluded area of St. John and was present when a shipment of cocaine was delivered.
Leonard took steps to help conceal the cocaine and did not make any effort to notify law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or his actions in concealing the cocaine.
Further on April 18, 2018, when Leonard was arrested he failed to advise law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or the transport of the cocaine.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid Tejo-Sprotte.
