CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas woman went to pick up her cell phone from a man who had broken up with her.
He was at a fitness club on Veterans Drive. She had secretly brought a kitchen knife to the rendezvous.
All hell broke loose.
Because the woman allegedly stabbed the man in the chest, instead of picking up the cell phone.
Moreta Sanchez, 31, of Altona, was arrested about 6 p.m. on Thursday after the man positively identified her as the person who stabbed him, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Sanchez was charged with first-degree assault-domestic violence, according to the VIPD.
The man told police he asked the woman to pick up her cell phone after they broke up and when she arrived she stabbed him in the chest with a kitchen knife, VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.
The incident took place in the parking lot of G Mussels Fitness Center on Kronprindsens Gade about 3 p.m. on Thursday, according to Dratte.
An ambulance arrived on the scene at the fitness center and the injured man was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a stab wound to the chest.
Sanchez was booked and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
The VIPD did not issue a prepared statement on this incident.
My purpose is not to victim blame but to give advice for those who are going through problems in their relationship.
First, pick a location that can de-escalate a volatile situation , like arriving early at a police command or a place that has operational metal detectors (courthouse or airport).
When there give the authorities a heads up so, they are aware of it.
Second, you can always ask the police to escort you to your vehicle just in case your ex is waiting for you on the outside.
In addition, keep the police well- informed of any threats in the near future.
Hopefully , people need to realize that relationships come and go . There is no need for violence . It just means that you weren’t meant to be together. Therefore, it is no one’s fault just end the relationship peacefully not as in a war zone.
It is best to end the relationship on amicable terms as friends and not as enemies.
Be safe out there until you have found your soulmate (true love),
PEACE
